Wilborn murder trial continued to June

The murder trial of Seal Beach resident Linda Wilborn, 33, was continued to June at the request of the defense. Authorities have accused Wilborn of murdering her 22-month-old daughter and physically abusing her then 22-month-old son in December 2009. The crime was investigated by the Seal Beach Police Department.

Authorities have said there is no evidence that either of the victims’ other two siblings were physically abused.

Wilborn’s husband was at work the day Millicent Wilborn died, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Wilborn’s jury trial was reportedly scheduled to start Monday, April 16, 2011, but the defense requested a continuation.

Originally, Linda Wilborn, was been charged with assaulting a child with enough force likely to cause death. At the time, the DA’s Office described the charge as the “equivalent of  murder” because the penalty for fatal child abuse is the same as the penalty for murder: 25 years to  life.

Now, however, the Orange County Superior Court website says Wilborn is charged with one count of murder, one count of assault on a child causing death as well as three counts of child abuse and endangerment.

The trial is scheduled to continue on June 4. Wilborn is in custody. Bail has been set at $1 million.
