It’s not all about money.
It’s also about promoting health and exercise.
That did not stop the Seal Beach City Council from expressing its appreciation for how much money was raised this year for city sports and recreation facilities and programs on Monday, July 12.
The council recognized the efforts of the Seal Beach 5K &10K Organization, which awarded a record amount of $110,000 in grants to 31 local non-profit community organizations thanks to its 36th annual Seal Beach running event.
This was despite national and state economies that are down way beyond the memory of many working people.
The event was commemorated at the council meeting Monday night, July 12, before the Seal Beach City Council.
During the council meeting, Race Committee Member Elizabeth Kane handed out checks to representatives of each receiving organization that had to apply for the grant money.
This year’s contribution by the Race Committee brings their total giving to local organizations during the past 10 years to over $600,000, Race Director Bill Ayres said.
Ayres also announced that the 37th Annual Seal Beach 5K&10K and 1K Kid’s Fun Run Event will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011.
For additional information regarding the next running event, refer to the Race Committee website: Sealbeachrun.com.
The annual race has become a staple of the springtime events that signal the city’s population dedicated to social causes and celebrating the general health and well-being the community is able to share among its members.
