Rossmoorgate: Tell the district board you want their meetings on TV

Joyce Bloom

How does the concerned citizen find out what are the real issues in the community of Rossmoor?

Answer: By attending long and tedious Board meetings. But what if the time is not right or you have to help your kids with homework or you have other social functions?

How are you to know who to vote for in the next election? That is why the discussion concerning payment of $250 -$300 per month to obtain RCSD Board meetings on LATV Channel 3 on May 8 was so infuriating.

Last month we were told that if we wanted to see the Board meetings we could do so on our computers. No more Cable TV broadcasts of RCSD Board meetings.

This month, the opportunity arose so that if the RCSD would pay about $250 per month, Rossmoorians could view the Board meetings on Time Warner Cable via LATV Channel 3.

This is not a great deal of money, in view of the money that this board spends on attorneys, accountants, polling and useless bids for cityhood and latent powers.

It should have been a no-brainer. The Board meeting was attended by about 17 people.  Ninety-nine percent of Rossmoor has a television.  Many people in Rossmoor do not have a computer.  (The library always has people using the computers.)

The Board members spent about 15 minutes debating whether Rossmoorians should view the Board meetings on their computers even though this subject had been discussed  at a previous meeting about two months previous, or pay the $250  and allow the community to have access to Board decisions in as many ways as possible.

Personally, I believe this Board does not want the community to know what is going on because if they did they would not hesitate to have Board meetings aired on TV as well as computers.

Who wants to be shackled to a computer to watch the RCSD meetings? At least on TV you can fall asleep during the boring moments!

Did the Board make a decision? Take a guess.  They want you to call them and tell them what to do. Another poll. Their telephone number is (562) 430-3707. Please call them and tell them you want meetings televised on Channel 3.

Do it for me, because I do watch LATV3!
