Police send LW traffic death to DA

UPDATE: A Leisure World woman was arraigned Friday, July 20, for “gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated,” according to the Orange County Superior Court website. An arraignment is a simple reading of the charge. She pleaded not guilty. She is out on bail.

Seal Beach Police Sgt. Steve Bowles said the department has submitted a Leisure World traffic fatality case to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Bowles told the Sun on Monday, July 17 that the department was waiting for the DA”s Office to file charges.

The case began at 5:39 p.m., Sunday, May 20, when officers received a report that a motorist had run into a man as he crossed a Leisure World street in his motorized wheelchair.

The accident apparently occurred near Saint Andrews and Tam O’Shanter. Officers found that the 86-year-old man in the wheelchair was injured. He was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the car, Dale Snyder Quinn, 75, another Leisure World resident, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. However, Quinn was later released due to an unspecified medical condition. Eight days after the collision, the man died at Long Beach Memorial.
