Crime Log: Preliminary hearing set in Seal Beach bar

A preliminary hearing in the Seal Beach barricade case was scheduled to start Wednesday, July 18, according to the Orange County Superior Court website. A preliminary hearing determines whether a case will go to trial.

Husamiddin Mubashshir, 31, of Seal Beach, was arrested for battery on police officers and resisting arrest following a two-hour standoff on Monday, July 2.

Mubashshir has been charged with evading a peace officer, resisting  arrest, two counts of battery on a peace officer and driving on a suspended license.

He is currently being held on $15,000 bail, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website.

According to the dispatch log for July 2, at 4:30 p.m., a woman in the 7-Eleven parking lot on Pacific Coast Highway said her husband took her car following a fight. She told police he was drunk.

Police contacted the woman and determined she was OK.

According to a police press release issued the next day, officers later saw the suspect drive past the location. Police tried to pull him over.

According to the dispatch log for July 2, the driver sped up while traveling eastbound at Anchor Way. At 4:42 p.m., he went inside his home on Anchor Way. Two children ran out.

The Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, US Navy and Naval Weapons Station police agencies secured the area while the Crisis Negotiation Team tried to talk Mubashshir into surrendering.

After two hours, police went into the house. Mubashshir reportedly slipped out a back door and tried to run.

Monday, July 2

Counseling—10:48 a.m.—Seal Beach Police Department Headquarters—A woman at the front counter wanted to ask about “Megan’s Law,” because she believed a sex offender was living illegally in her neighborhood. However, she refused to give her address or other information.

California Penal Code 290, also known as Megan’s Law, requires convicted sex offenders such as child molesters to truthfully report their latest address of residence to the nearest law enforcement agency.Report taken.

Bike—10:59 a.m.—Catalina Avenue—Loss: a one-speed Cruiser bike designed for women. The crime apparently occurred on Saturday, June 30. The owner requested a log item only. No suspect information. Log entry.

Citizen Assist—11:03 a.m.—Crestview Avenue—The caller said his neighbor was cutting the caller’s tree without his permission. The caller did not want to confront the neighbor, but said he knows what the neighbor was doing was against the law. Counseled.

Patrol Check—3:07 a.m.—Pacific Coast Highway and Marina—The caller said several RVs had been parked on 5th Street by the greenbelt between PCH and Marina. The caller said the occupants might be living inside the RVs. The occupants were reportedly leaving bags of trash and urine out on the street. Police unit 107 found only one mobile home and it was registered to an address on Ocean Avenue.

Disturbance, Juveniles—4:45 p.m.—Harvard Lane—Three juveniles, two boys and one girl, jumped the fence into the flood channel behind the caller’s residence. The caller said the channel was a known graffiti area. The juveniles left a white, four-door vehicle parked at the end of the block. By 6:24 p.m., the caller told a dispatcher that the juveniles were gone.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—5:09 p.m.—Elder Avenue—The caller said about five minutes earlier, a man came to the caller’s door and offered to do construction work. The man wanted to come inside the caller’s residence, but the caller would not allow him to enter.

Petty Theft—6:06 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Loss: a red Big Shot six-gear bike valued at $400. No suspect information. The crime occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. Report taken.

Tuesday, July 3

Petty Theft Report—7:13 a.m.—7th Street—Someone took the caller’s black iron chair from her property during the night. No report desired. Log entry.

Malicious Mischief—8:52 a.m.—Marina Drive—Someone smashed the passenger window of a car during the night. The car was parked off the alley in the covered parking lot for the complex. Report taken.

Counseling—12:27 p.m.—Seal Beach Police Department Headquarters—A citizen said his son was scratched on the back at the Seal Beach Animal Care Center when a dog jumped on the citizen’s son.

A supervisor at the shelter reportedly told the citizen to contact Long Beach Animal Care Services, which provides animal control services to Seal Beach.

However, the citizen did not want to contact ACS. Instead, the citizen wanted to speak with a police officer. Counseled.

Petty Theft Report—12:59 p.m.—Flagstaff Court—A .40 Glock registered in another state was missing after being moved. The moving company was still present. Report taken.

Wednesday, July 4

Disturbance, Noise—2:08 a.m.—8th Street—The caller said two men were talking in the alley. Police unit S18 advised the two men to stop creating a disturbance. They told police they would comply and were sent on their way.

Structure Fire—11:52 p.m.—8th Street—The caller said the roof of a residence was on fire. The Orange County Fire Authority was there by 11:56 p.m. At 12:51 a.m., Thursday, July 5, the dispatch log listed the cause of the fire: a bottle rocket firework. Outside agency assisted.

Thursday, July 5

Grand Theft Report—11:15 a.m.—Electric Avenue—Loss: a 10-speed Tsunami bike, bright red and blue. Valued at: $1,500. The bike was taken from the front porch where it was locked and secured. Report taken.

Disturbance, Juveniles—8:10 p.m.—Elder Avenue—The caller said two boys in their early teens were walking down the street with what looked like a rifle. The caller said they went inside an address on Elder Avenue. Police unit 206 counseled the juveniles and their mom about playing with an airsoft gun on the street. According to airsoftgi.com, airsoft guns are replicas of real firearms that use compressed air to fire projectiles.

Friday, July 6

Barking Dog—2:47 a.m.—12th Street—The caller could hear a dog going “ballistic.” The caller said it had been going on for 10 minutes. The caller believed the dog was at a residence to the rear of the caller’s location. The caller said it was suspicious for the dog to bark like that. Then, while speaking with the dispatcher, the caller said the dog had stopped barking—which the caller believed was really suspicious. Police unit 207 contacted the homeowner and determined no further police service was necessary.

Saturday, July 7

Found Property—9:58 a.m.—San Gabriel River—The caller saw a shotgun or rifle in the river on the north side of the bridge. The officer in police unit 106 saw the firearm in the water. Lifeguards came to assist with retrieving the weapon from the water. Report taken.

Petty Theft Report—10:16 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Loss: a vacuum valued at $399. The crime apparently occurred at 8 p.m.

Sunday, July 8

Burglary Report—11:32 a.m.—10th Street—Someone broke into the caller’s garage and stole the caller’s bike. The crime apparently occurred between 9 p.m., Saturday, July 7, and 8 a.m., Sunday, July 8. The bike was apparently taken from the caller’s open garage. Report taken.

Vicious Animals—2:42 p.m.—Surf Place—The caller said there were two dogs in the caller’s back yard. One was a boxer and the other a large mix breed that the caller apparently described as a pitbull. The caller told police the dogs reside at an address on Surf Place. Police contacted the dog sitter, who said she would repair the fence.

The caller was advised to call the police if the dogs returned. Matter solved.

Thursday, July 5

Petty Theft Report—11:15 a.m.—Annandale Drive, Mutual 1—Loss: two sets of luggage, a bag and an ice cooler taken from an unlocked storage locker in the carport area. The caller was not home at the time and said they would call back later for a report.

Thursday, July 5

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—1:40 p.m.—Paseo Bonita—The caller said his neighbor was not home when two individuals in a truck arrived and walked around the residence. Patrol unit contacted the individuals in the truck. They turned out to be workers who were repairing the garage. The homeowner was at home.

Petty Theft—2:12 p.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said a security camera was taken from the rear of the business, possibly over the previous weekend. The caller had someone review the tape to try and determine when the theft occurred. Report taken.

Motor Scooter—5:38 p.m.—Green Avenue—The caller reported a juvenile riding a motor scooter in and out of her driveway. The caller said a previous call was made and the juvenile had already been advised, so the caller thought the parents might need to be advised. The caller was concerned for the safety of the children operating the scooters. Patrol was unable to locate the scooters.

Prowler—11:29 p.m.—Holden Circle—The caller reported seeing a shadow in the back yard of a neighbor’s house, which was tented. The caller could not see if it was a man or woman, but was going to look out and call back if anything changed.

The caller phoned back to say that he could no longer see the individual. Police checked the residence and determined no further police services were required.

Sunday, July 8

Suspicious Person—8:10 p.m.—Essex Drive—The caller reported that two juveniles, both boys, walked up to the caller’s residence.

They looked into an open window and asked the caller if he would like his car washed.

The juveniles then went to the caller’s neighbor. Patrol located two juveniles from the neighborhood who were trying to raise money.
