The project to expand the Seal Beach Boulevard bridge over the 405 Freeway will begin at 5 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 19.
While the goal of the project is to widen the bridge, for the next 11 months there will be fewer lanes as the public will have access to only one lane going in each direction. A “center median” will be created for the exclusive use of emergency vehicles.
The construction is being carried out by the Orange County Transportation Authority as part of the larger West County Connectors Project.
The reduction of lanes is expected to cause a bottle neck. Among steps taken by Seal Beach offcials, arrangements have been made for the Long Beach Fire Department to respond to emergencies in Seal Beach’s College Park West area, which is located north of the freeway bridge.
