Crime Log: Woman arrested for brandishing a stun gun at her husband

Los Alamitos Police Department officers arrested a 42-year-old woman for spousal abuse and brandishing a stun gun on Sept. 8.

The call came to police at 9:55 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8.

Detective Sgt. Sean Connelly said officers responded to a domestic disturbance call and arrested Lori Frye, 42, of Los Alamitos, for assault with a civilian issue stun device.

“The stun gun was not deployed—it was brandished, but it was not deployed,” Connelly said, apparently meaning that the woman did not actually use the stun gun on her husband.

According to Connelly, the stun gun in question was a civilian model, intended to be used to incapacitate someone long enough for a citizen to get away from an assailant.

Connelly said he could not remember the last time he had seen an assault with a stun gun charge being filed.

Connelly said police have submitted the case to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. It will be up to the prosecutor’s office to decide if charges will be filed with the court.

Frye was booked at the Orange County Jail. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website, Frye was released on at 1:46 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9. The website said that bond had been posted. However, the website also said bail was set at zero dollars.
