I wanted to echo some of the recent sentiments about highlighting some of the positive reasons to living in Seal Beach.
During the big storm on Friday, a large 80 foot pine tree fell on our home on the Hill. My wife and kids were home and it was a very scary experience. Thankfully no one was hurt but we had a large hole in our roof and ceiling from a branch that came into the living room. Water was pouring into our living room.
I called the city around 4:45 p.m. and they immediately sent the tree crew to our home. The team from SoCal Land Maintenance worked tirelessly from 5 to about 9 p.m. clearing branches in the rain.
• The fire department came right away and cleared a downed line in front of the house.
• Brian, the city building inspector, came over and inspected the integrity of our house and thankfully it was safe and we were able to stay home.
• A couple of our amazing neighbors rallied – Kent and his son Hunter went down to the beach in the rain and filled sand bags for us to tarp the house.
• The tree crew came the next day and cleared the tree off our house.
• The city team checked in on the progress intermittently and Brian came by the following day to check in as well.
I think the response from the City was absolutely amazing, especially during the storm. Special thanks to Tim (at Rec) and Brian (building inspector).
I knew our neighbors on the Hill were great but they proved that it is a truly special place to live.
There has been a lot of negative discussions about our town- this is not meant to get political or address any of those issues. I just wanted to highlight a truly positive response to an extremely difficult situation for our family.
