It’s time for the 30th annual Sunset Beach No Boat Parade sometimes called the ’Doo Dah Parade’ Saturday, Dec. 16 at 6:03 p.m. Attendees should meet at the south parking lot in Sunset Beach at 6pm. This is the first officially sanctioned event for the 50 piece USC Alumni Marching Band, according to Sunset Beach Community Association Vice President Dawn McCormack. The parade route goes from the parking behind Jack in the Box at the southern end of Sunset Beach, driving on North Pacific Avenue all the way to Anderson Street and making a loop around the Greenbelt, coming back south on South Pacific Avenue. There will be two loops around the greenbelt.

Sunset Beach Woman’s Club Co-President and Realtor Cheryl Coleman said, “It’s a fun little town parade that circles around the greenbelt usually led by a local firetruck and decorated cars and bikes throwing candy to the neighbors, who step out in front of their homes to watch. It only goes on for an hour, so you have to be quick to watch but it’s the cutest little parade you will ever set your sights on.”

Huntington Harbor Commission Member Mike Van Voorhis said, “What makes this event unique is that it is not sponsored by any of our local organizations. It was created by Dave and Sue Porter & Jack Milucky in 1993. Every year it is organized only by residents. It’s a fun evening.”

Sunset Beach Resident Elaine Bakker enjoys watching the parade from her balcony.
