IN SEAL BEACH

Wednesday, January 12

• Arrest (Priority 3)—5:24 a.m.—Ocean Avenue (Old Town)—A man was reported sleeping in the reporting person’s back yard. As of 5:28 a.m., the reporting person told police that the man in the yard had uncovered all of the patio furniture and taken off the cushions. As of 6:44 a.m., police had the man in custody. Police arrested John Gonzales on suspicion of trespassing.

• Grand Theft Report (Priority 3)—1:09 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The crime apparently occurred at 1:58 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 9. Loss: High-end cosmetics. The value of the stolen property was blacked out in the log. Report taken.

• Petty Theft Report (Priority 3)—3:49 p.m.—Taper Drive (The Hill)—The crime apparently occurred on Friday, Jan. 7 Friday. Loss: a package taken from the porch, valued at $100.

• Disturbing Individual (Priority 2)—5:11 p.m.—Nassau Drive and Brookline Road (Leisure World, Mutual 9)—The reporting person was driving in the area and an individual threw something at the reporting person’s car, then threw a plate at the reporting person. (It was not clear from the log if the “plate” was a dish or a license plate.) As of 5:25 p.m., the reporting person said they had witnesses with them. As of 5:27 p.m., police contacted the individual in question. The individual told police that they had given the reporting person the finger and used foul language because the reporting person was blocking the alley. Police determined that there was no damage to the reporting person’s car and no crime had occurred.

Thursday, January 13

• Possible Health and Safety Violation (Priority 2)—11:27 a.m.—12th Street and Electric Avenue (Old Town)—The reporting person saw three men on a bench with a glass pipe and a butane tank about 3 minutes prior to the call. As of 11:41 a.m., the reporting person advised that the three men got into a delivery truck. They were last seen on 12th Street, headed toward Pacific Coast Highway. Police were unable to locate them.

• Fraud Report (Priority 3)—3:18 p.m.— First Street)—Someone changed the information in the reporting person’s Employment Development Department account and that person had been receiving the reporting person’s unemployment benefits.

• Transient (Priority 3)—4:05 p.m.—Surfside Avenue—The reporting person, relaying second-hand information to Surfside Security, reported that a man was walking on the beach side. As of 4:23 p.m., he was reported passed out on the berm.  As of 4:24 a.m., police contacted the man in question. He told police he had been drinking, but had a friend coming to pick him up. As of 4:36 p.m., he was reunited with his friend.

• Traffic Hazard (Priority 2)—7 p.m.—Lampson Avenue and Heather Street (College Park East)—A Christmas tree was reported in the slow lane going westbound, between Heather and Candleberry. As of 7:26 p.m., the tree was removed from the roadway.

• Suspicious Person (Priority 2)—7:10 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The reporting person, an employee, said a woman with a small child had filled two to three baskets with merchandise and was leaving the baskets around the store. The reporting person was concerned that she might steal the items. As of 7:19 p.m., police contacted the woman inside the store. She told police that she put down one basket to chase after her child. She said store employees put the items back. That was why she was in the store for so long. She left the items and left the store.

Friday, January 14

• Suspicious Occupied Car (Priority 2)—12:40 a.m.—College Park Drive and Purdue Circle (College Park West)— The reporting person saw a car occupied by an unknown number of individuals. The reporting person thought the car might be related to drug activity in the area. As of 12:52 a.m., police found the car parked and unoccupied.

• Disturbing Noise (Priority 3)—5:50 a.m.—Main Street (Old Town)—The reporting person said a truck was in the alley with the engine running. The reporting person believed they were not supposed to pull into the alley until 7 a.m. Police contacted all the parties involved. The commercial truck was not in violation of any Municipal Code or California Vehicle Code. The reporting person was counseled and told it was not against the law for the truck to be parked in the alley and there was no time restriction on when the truck cold be parked. The business owner was also contacted and according to the log he advised his drivers not to conduct business before 7 a.m. to appease the reporting person.

• Disturbing Juveniles (Priority 3)—3:47 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The reporting person told police that two 11-year-old juveniles were riding a Vespa with no license plates. The reporting person expressed concern for their welfare. As of 4:08 p.m., police had counseled the juveniles. The juveniles apparently left in another vehicle. The reporting person was counseled.

• Disturbing Juveniles (Priority 3)—9:16 a.m.—Ocean Avenue (Old Town)—Ten kids were reported in the 10th Street parking lot. One had a bag and was swinging it at signs. Police were unable to locate him.

Saturday, January 15

• Disturbing Individual (Priority)—1:34 p.m.—Westminster Avenue—A woman was trying to get a refund and was not allowing other customers to be helped. The reporting person told police that the supervisor could give the refund, but the supervisor was at another location. As of 2:34 p.m., all parties had been counseled and the supervisor would get back to the woman in question at some point.

Sunday, January 16

• Disturbing Individual (Priority 2)—Seal Beach Boulevard—A trailer blocked a customer’s parking spot and the driver refused to move. The reporting person asked him to move over a little so customers could bark and he refused. As of 12:54 p.m., police contacted the driver. He moved his vehicle.

• Disturbing Juveniles (Priority 3)—10th Street (Old Town)—Two juveniles were skateboarding in the back parking lot of the church. They were asked to leave. They refused.

According to the “close” column of the log entry, they were apparently counseled.

• Disturbing Music (Priority 3)—10:24 p.m.—Main Street (Old Town)—Police received a complaint that the band that plays on the back of a pickup truck was getting really loud. As of 10:40 p.m., the band was cleaning up and leaving for the night.

Monday, January 17

• Traffic Hazard (Priority 2)—1:17 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Police received a report that there was an injured pelican in the traffic lanes of Adolfo Lopez. As of 2:16 p.m., Long Beach Animal Care Services had possession of the pelican. LBACS provides animal control services to Seal Beach.

• Pedestrian Check (Priority 3)—Pacific Coast Highway—A police unit checked a pedestrian. Police arrested Rafael Monzon on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and suspicion of possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.

Tuesday, January 18

• Petty Theft Report (Priority 3)—Seal Beach Boulevard—A red bicycle was taken from the bike racks, apparently at 2 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 16. Suspect unknown. Report taken.

• Welfare Check (Priority 2)—11:37 a.m.—Pacific Coast Highway and Seal Beach Boulevard—A police unit stopped to check on the well being of an individual. Police arrested Kevin Saunders on suspicion of public intoxication.

• Found Property Reported (Priority 4)—12:15 p.m.—Main Street—The reporting person said a transient woman left property on a bench in front of the location. The reporting person said she defecated to the front of the location. She was reportedly gone at the time of the call. Police found her present at the location. Police found nothing on the bench. No one saw her doing anything illegal.

Saturday, February 5

• Grand Theft—10:45 p.m.—Main Street— Police received a report of a grand theft that apparently occurred at the 320 Main restaurant. “The victim discovered that at about 8:00pm, an unknown suspect snuck into the restaurant’s back office and stole money, alcohol, and a firearm. The victim did not realize the items had been stolen for multiple hours. The investigation is currently ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Chris Hendrix at (562) 799-4100 ext. 1112 or chendrix@sealbeachca.gov,” wrote Lt.
