Eleven citations were issued for driving with suspended/revoked license or without a license and two subjects were arrested at a DUI checkpoint on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023.
The DUI checkpoint was held at northbound Pacific Coast Highway, north of the intersection with Balboa Drive, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 23.
The Seal Beach Police Department organized the DUI checkpoint with assistance from California Highway Patrol, Cypress PD, West County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and the Seal Beach PD VIPS (Volunteers in Police Services) personnel.
Eleven drivers were cited for various vehicle code violations, and seven field sobriety tests were performed. In all, 327 vehicles were contacted, and 1,001 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Two subjects were arrested for an outstanding warrant and drunk in public, CPC 647(f).
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
The next DUI checkpoint is scheduled to be held on Feb. 3, 2024. (Checkpoint dates are subject to change.)
